While topaz comes in a multitude of colors, Imperial Topaz and its orange color is certainly the one that has most fascinated civilizations throughout history.
Each of its color variations depicts a magnificent sunset.
As early as 3000 BC, imperial topaz symbolized for the Egyptians the power of the sun god Ra. It has carried this symbolic power with the Greeks and Romans ever since.
In the past, imperial topaz was mined in Pakistan and Russia. As crystals of this beautiful color became scarcer and more difficult to extract, these mines ceased production.
Around 1730, a major deposit was discovered in the Ouro Preto region of Brazil. To this day, it is the only source of imperial topaz, which is becoming increasingly rare.
