White jade consists of calcium and magnesium silicate. It is a very pure variety of nephrite jade. It is part of a category of amphiboles.
White jade can be translucent, white or very slightly yellow (a variety known in China as sheep jade). It is an ornamental stone used in a wide variety of jewellery and decorative objects. Canada is currently the main producer.
